It’s great to see that there is people that is able to work on what they want, that’s the case of Zarina a Spanish dancer involved in the gothic movement, she is a gothic dancer and she should be an inspiration for most of us, today we meet…

Zarina: Gothic Dancer.

gothic girl dancing

I found her following links in the facebook of the Zaragoza gothic festival, that’s a goth community of a Spanish city called “zaragoza”, they have a slightly small gothic community but highly organized and coordinated.

So I was able to see a great video as an example of what this girl do… Another demonstration of that the gothic movement its an artistic movement way much deeper than what most people would like to recognize and way much deeper than what, sadly, most people will be able to see because of their lack of interest.

But hey, we didn’t get into this because of the ranks and recognition, did you? So let’s enjoy this gothic dance on our own…

At first I had the intention of bringing this article to you just for showing you the great job this girl is doing but then I talked with her and she wanted to write a little bit about what gothic dance is, without doubt a much better vision that what I would have been able to provide.

On her own words (but translated into English with my modest translation skills):

What is gothic dance? As a resume, we could define it as a fusion between the dance and the gothic culture. It’s important notice that the Goth term applied to dance doesn’t distinguish between the large amount of genres of gothic music, for example, an Victorian themed show or a romantic one would be referred as gothic dance in the same way as a Gothabily, cybergoth or Industrial would. So it must be considered as an abuse of the provisional language.

Being a style opened to the personal creativity there exist a wide range of musical bases for your performance that comes from the most extreme metal to electronic music. In the same way, in gothic dance we find too a wide range of possible aesthetics: from Victorian dressings to mythological creatures recreations (angles demons, vampires, witches, faeries…), gothic circus dressings, leather or vinyl dressings…

As a conclusion the dancer work consists in putting all those pieces together in the scene (music, choreography, movements, dressings, scenography, etc.) for giving an adequate show to the gothic aesthetic and culture.

I might be wrong but I somehow think that Zarina found the same problem that I find when trying to talk about artistical aspects of the gothic culture, it’s so wide that trying to resume them or describe them in just a few lines it’s almost impossible… je… things are like they are…

What you shouldn’t miss it’s the opportunity of enjoying her spectacular and mesmerizing movements.

This videos and photos might inspire someone to pursue their dreams or even create a few new dreams, maybe some of you might want to contact her and ask her something about how she does what she does… if you were in spain maybe you could be so lucky on being able to take some classes on gothic dancing with her…

Anyway I leave you with a  link to her Web site so you can contact her if you want to do so.
