Today we visit a really special place, you can found it in Baltimore (United status), today we talk about…
Edgar Alan Poe Tomb.

We could write a lot about this personality, too much for this article and anyway, whatever i wrote about Edgar Alan Poe it will be really short for what he deserve so I’ll limit myself to invite you to take a look to his place of eternal resting.

The humble tomb of Edgar Alan Poe was an almost forgotten little place inside Westminster cemetery (Baltimore) for almost 25 years. Edgar was on a trip from New York to Richmond when he diseased and died.
It’s said that he was found completely drunk with clothes not belonging to him and without a penny in his pockets, four days later he died in a medical institution and next day he was buried.
Only his cousin Neilson Poe and about 10 other close friends attended to his austere burial.
10 years later, Maria Clemm (Peo Aunt) was able to convince Neilson to buy an adequate tombstone, unluckily for her that tombstone was broken before it was delivered to the cemetery and they had to make a new one for replacing the first, this one was not as ornate as the broken one.
It wasn’t until 1865 that a teacher called Sara Sigourney Rice started a collect for paying a monument as Poe deserved, after another 10 years the new tombstone was bought and nowadays it’s the one that you can see in his resting place.
Finally Poe remains were exhumed and re-buried, now you can find his tombstone in a corner of the cemetery, just adjacent to one of it’s entrances.
But Poe post-mortem legend isn’t over yet, every year a man accomplish a little personal rite, each 19th January he approaches the tomb and leave some roses in it, he open a cognac bottle and leaves, no one knows who he is.
But this year (as in 2010) the mysterious man missed his meeting... ruours say that he is death, and maybe with him this tadition is death too... Will he be back next year? Is there anyone that can replace him?
We have to say that past 2009 Baltimore celebrated a special burial in Poe Honour, it was a various days event in which Poe memory was honoured.
