If you are planning to go to the U.S. you shouldn’t miss…

New Goth City

www.newgothcity.com is a web site devoted to the promotion of gothic places and event of New York City, this Site was created and its maintained by Sir William Welles, a member of the gothic community that’s also filmmaker, writer and artist.

When Sir William Welles re-entered the gothic Scene he found himself having real fun with the people and gothic events of the city but in the other hand he felt really frustrated because of the big issue that was to know where or when the next event was to occur.

Most time this information came in the form of forgotten flyers or by hard-to-hear-word-of-mouth recommendations.

So was born New Goth City, here you’ll be able to find news about gothic events and places of the city, it must be said that this site offer an absolutely free service for both event organisers/promoters and event goers. The main purpose of New Goth City is to promote the Goth Culture by openly sharing all kind of information.

Here you’ll be able to find sections about events, shops, places to buy food or drinks, discounts on several pubs and tourism attractions to visit in the event you got o N.Y.C.

We are going to pay special attention to that last section, for 2 reasons, first, because its what our section is devoted too and secondly because if you want to have an up-to-date information about anything else you should visit Sir William’s Site and check there.

Here is a list of places to visit if you love the Dark.

TRINITY CHURCH CEMETERY

89 Broadway (@ Wall Street) N.Y.C.

A wonderfully historic set of headstones ranging from Revolutionary War heroes to the Astor Family. The latest addition to the landmark cemetery is none other than actor Jerry Orbach of Law & Order fame.

CYPRESS HILLS CEMETERY

833 Jamaica Ave (@ Crescent Street) Ridgewood, BKLYN

A large cemetery that straddles the Queens/Brooklyn line that is the final resting place of actress/diva Mae West.

At the adjacent Machpelah Jewish Cemetery you will also find the impressive tomb of famous Magician Harry Houdini. To this day the Society of American Magicians holds its annual "Broken Wand" ceremony at the gravesite on the anniversary of Houdini's death...every October 31st!

THE GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY

500 25th Street (@ 5th Ave.) BKLYN

This huge 478 acre cemetery boasts having approximately 600,000 graves and was considered N.Y.C.'s top tourist attraction in the 1850's. This splendid graveyard has quite a few corpses that were important historical figures, including: William "Bill The Butcher" Poole, Henry Steinway, Walter Hunt  the inventor of the Safety Pin, and Charles Feltman who claimed to be the first person to put a hot dog on a bun.

THE MERCHANT HOUSE MUSEUM

29 East 4th Street (btw. Wooster & Greene Sts.) N.Y.C.

The Merchant House Museum showcases the Victorian home of days gone by. Also, look out for their occasional roof and garden events...especially around Halloween time!

THE OLD & NEW CALVARY CEMETERY

49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd., Woodside, QNS (Official Address)

One of the biggest and oldest cemetery in the U.S., it spans over two main areas. The Old Calvary Cemetery (to the west) has, understandably, the more ornate gravestones and tombs, but it is more difficult to get to without a car. Buried here are Mobsters, Politicians, Military Heroes, Entertainers, and the average New Yorker corpse.

BELVEDERE CASTLE IN CENTRAL PARK

By the 79th Street Traverse Rd., Mid Park

A perfect place for photos!!! Find neat 'nooks and crannies' of medieval and gothic architecture all about...and don't miss the ornate bronze Cockatrice Transom over the main front door. Inside the castle there is...well...we'll leave that as a surprise.
