Today i come with a slightly…. Humorous? Article. I’m not quite sure how to introduce this one so let’s get directly to it and we will see where this ends…
Gothic Lolita Psycho (The movie)
That’s it, it just felt in my hands… this film is about a young Gothic Lolita girl (or that dresses like one… or tries it at least), but she isn’t a common gothic Lolita, she is a gothic Lolita psycho… which is way much better.
Even at risk of making a too fast critic… I don’t think that we can take this movie seriously, that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun watching it.
What the fuck… I’m not going to be the first one that says that loves this kind of Japanese movies, they completely lack of storyline and the very few existent turns around dozens of action scenes with a huge amount of corpses falling into liters and liters of their own fake blood.
Could we ask for something better?
But let’s take a closer look… Gothic Lolita psycho: the argument of the movie turns around the vengeance against 5 villains who killed the mother of a young girl.
In an attempt for under covering the real reasons behind the apparently senseless murder of her mother, Yuki transforms herself into a demon of vengeance by dressing herself in a gothic Lolita outfit… Why not?
I’m not going to lie you, chances are that after reading those 2 paragraphs you are able to guess all the turns of the storyline and even predict with certain accuracy most of the film scenes, when you end watching the trailer you could probably consider the film as “seen”.
But that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy “it’s moments”, in deed it has quite many of them, the makeup/gore effects are created by Yoshihiro Nishimura, that sincerely is a complete unknown for me but he has earned some fame for creating the same kind of effects for movies like “Tokyo Gore police” and “Vampire girl Vs Frankenstein Girl”
It could seem those references don’t say a lot but if you consider it carefully…. It in deed means a lot.
For providing a better review let’s take a look to the protagonist… saying that the gothic Lolita aesthetics represent perfectly its mental situation (other than being a psycho) would be pretty accurate, she is a real mix about a very very childish behavior with a very very dark personality.
She uses a mix of her charming behavior and her “parasol-weapon” for chasing the “bad-guys” until he finds them and then killing them merciless. For adding an example, the first one is a Yakuza guy that haves fun decapitating people.
I have to say that the film was presented in the “international festival tour” in Japan, where it was received with quite of interest, we have to understand that this genre is quite recognized in Japan.
But we shouldn’t be so rude with this film, in deed this film is a quite interesting bet for the splattergore genre and whichever likes that genre (like me) will find fun in this film even with it’s lack of occidental movies strong points.
We can’t deny that this film is what it wants to be and it doesn’t lie, you know what are you going to watch…
Handling a parasol as a deadly weapon while you execute the bad guys in the name of god is something that you don’t see daily, and remember that this movie it’s exactly about that: decapitations and dismembering everywhere.
Let’s face it, when we talk about senseless gore, there is no one that can do it better than the Japanese people…
I leave you with the trailer… enjoy.
