Vampires and Sexuality

The first article seems to be from 2008, hope you like it as much as I did.

Talking about Sex and vampirism it like talking about basically the same, that’s because the popular legends always associate sex with vampirism. Today we will try to centre our review in the more pure legends of Europe, which, luckily have stay at margin from the Hollywood contamination.

Vampires as any other manifestation of un-dead in all the popular legends are creatures with a intense sexual life; this is not always represented by the search of erotic satiety.

Almost every activity associated with vampirism have associated a strength sexual symbols, that was enough for ensuring them a permanent position in the modern legends, leaving behind them an unlimited amount of mythical legends.

Fangs:

vampire fangs

Curiously the famous fangs that we always evoke when thinking about vampires are all of later invention and always of literacy source. Esthetical they are an integrated part of the vampire image but thinking in its functionality, those fangs are absolutely inadequate for the function they are supposed to execute.

The first apparition of fangs associated with the vampire figure was in the Varney novel “the vampire” published in 1840. before that aesthetic addition, popular mythology ensured that vampires had 2 methods for feeding, both associated with sex but none of them with seduction.

Seduction.

the vampire that we can see in the literature seduce, subject and then feed himself. The order is more or less the same for all the vampirism literature, and that’s why of his terrible success. The masculine vampire subjects his victims in a fashion that almost in every instance it’s the woman who finally offer herself to the vampire. If the vampire gets unmolested by a third party there is no kind of violence, assaults or anything against the victim will, its more like a seduction dance that ends with the victims submission to the vampire’s will.

The absolute submission of the woman to the persuasion of the vampire its usually view as a sexual mascara. Giving her own life its some kind of culmination of the sexual act, specially inside the abstraction of the woman mind.

Not even apiece of seduction.

But European mythology about vampires are harder to reduce to any kind of analogy. European vampires are bloodthirsty, insatiable, monsters and nothing that could seem similar to seductive.

Sex it’s still the central part of the legend but it’s simbology is far from any kind of courtship.

European vampires traditionally used two ways for feeding: the main one was some short of sting just beneath the tongue, the secondary one were a pair of some short fangs located in the frontal part of the mouth (different from the human fangs which are located in the laterals of the mouth.

The function is similar of what vampires fangs function should be, its just to penetrate the skin with holes close enough to be able to cover it with a human mouth and suction from them efficiently and still be able to deepen into the wound while feeding.

The sting was designed to be able to tear the flesh and cut into the victim muscles for feeding with the victim’s meat (yeah in deed European vampires not only feed with their victims blood but also with their fresh meat).

The sexual part of all of this is that male vampires used to feed from women just in the inside area of their legs, its needed to point out that popular legends don’t talk about sexual penetration although its evident that its what they tried to say.

About sexual curiosities.

the most well know enemy of vampires is Garlic. Curiously the tradition of using garlic as a defence against vampires have a pure sexual background.

The first mention of Garlic as an adequate way for defending against vampires date from low medieval age, in those times doors and windows were imprinted in Garlic essence by the oldest fertile woman (which usually didn’t had more than 35 years old) during the menstruation period.

This Garlic didn’t  hurt the vampire in any way but it cloaked the women blood smell and made it less attractive for vampires, that didn’t meant that you were safe from a  vampire attack it just made your smell less attractive for them.

Vampires are, and will always be, sex symbols, in every epoch they have been invested by different characteristics but behind every face there is only one symbol, a mirror in which we can see our reflection.
