Today I bring a Spanish artist… born in the gothic culture, interested in manga and everything that’s related with Japan, she was able to evolve her art without forgetting her roots, we going to talk about…
When you think in gothic artist it comes to your mind poetries, music and images of drawings and pictures, its always in that way because gothic people are open minded to arts and cultures, in some cases that need of learning about new cultures makes the gothic artist to mix Goth with other tendencies, tats what happens to Ruth.
In this article we are going to learn more about herself and more about her art, I’m sure you wont stop surprising, I must say that all art pieces are made by Ruth and its possible to acquire them either for decoration or for collections (although I’m not sure if she is able to ship them to every place in the world).
Personally I love them because its something different to what we are used to find in drawing books, I found them more sober, more adult, with less drawing it transmit much more.
Ruth was born in Santander (North of Spain, you can find it in Google maps), she started her professional work ending his art degree but she was focusing in being an artist much earlier than that, since she was young she loved to “create” with her own hands, being sewing and drawing above everything else.
As it use to happen to many artists, as well as she was growing her mind got bored of what’s considered “normal” and she started to enquire about unknown and different stuff, her desire to learn she introduced herself 5 years ago to J-fashion (modern Japanese fashion).
There she found new urban tribes different to anything that could be seen in Spain: Visual from Mana (Malize Mizer guitarrist) and Moi Moix (Dir en grey singer)… or lolita, a little sweeter that the earlier.
All this new information made Ruth to start designing her own clothes and drawing pictures previously not shown in Spain, in deed Ruth is the first J-fashion Spanish clothes designer, nowadays Ruth is specialised in Lolita clothes.
Ruth is completely open minded in almost everything and painting is not an exception, she has painted about many different themes like landscapes that bring you to different times or places but her speciality are portraits and humanised dolls, personally I love her gothic themed drawings.
Goth heart, born artist, and vocational creator brought to her firsts creations, those were gothic lolita clothes, she never stopped creating that kina of clothes but with a such restless mind she couldn’t stop there so nowadays she also designs Sweet Lolita clothes with a little more classic look.
With such a career TV and radio media (and now Internet also) have interviewed Ruth several times, we can find such interviews in some Spanish televisions as well as some national newspapers like “El Pais” or “Publico”, we can read about her in “H magazine” too.
Saying that in Spain is really saying a lot, we all know that young designers have real troubles for making themselves a place, especially if you avoid common tendencies.
Regardless of starting difficulties and global economic crisis Ruth is still active, in deed her last work was this year in the “Salon del Manga de Barcelona” (a Spanish Manga event off great relevance), in that event she made a fashion show with her Lolita designs as well as a special design for a J-fashion exposition.
Curiously Japanese Media that attended to the event were interested in this kind of Spanish initiative and they approached Ruth for interviewing her personally… suppose we can say she is a lolita clothes designer of international fame.
Now I’m waiting for Ruth to send me some images of her gothic lolita clothes, as soon as i have them I’ll actualise this article, all the clothes are for selling, the bad news is that this kind of clothes cant be cheap, they are all hand made with days or weeks of hard work behind them, each piece of cloth is a piece of art.
If you want to make someone a special gift you can contact her in her own site (link a little below), bad news is that her site is in Spanish, but don’t panic, if you don’t know Spanish or you cant contact her for any reason just contact me and I’ll translate you into Spanish so you both can talk without problem.
I leave you with her last fashion show (just for teasing you) there you’ll find various of her gothic Lolita designs as well as some other more classical designs, you’ll love it.
