Today we are going to visit one of those artist that makes us evade from this world we live at and visit other different places… not better, not worst, just different in their conception, just relax and let your mind fly with the illustrations made by…
After I watched a few gothic art pieces made By Bethalynne I wonder: Who is that girl? So as My curiosity demanded I went to her Web site and read her biography… yeah I’m one of the few remaining crazy people who still believe that it’s important to know the artist behind the art…
Anyway, the fact is that after reading it I noticed something strange but still quite common… it’s impressive how hard if for this artist to write about themselves… that’s even stranger considering the fact that they are able to express quite complex and abstract ideas and emotions by the meaning of dwaring them.
That’s give us something to think about… how many of us faced a similar problem of being able to do things easily that other people would consider beyond reality and still having real problems on performing what would be considered an easy task?
Being a child she got their first art influence that came from her own family… more exactly from her older brother, luckily for her (and for us) her family is quite gifted in art talent and that allowed her to learn how to do all this even not receiving any artistic lessons at all.
That reaffirms me in something that I always thought… each of us should devote our lives to something we enjoy and not to what society or university makes us believe we should do… maybe we wont end being such which or educated… nor that submissive… but we would be way happier and way much more efficient in our tasks.
I’m going away again… Bethalynne states that she rarely uses Photoshop or any other tool of photographic edition in her work, it’s her fiancée who (according to her biography if I understood well) makes any arrangement if needed.
And that’s about all what is written in her biography… As I do, Bethalynne believes that one shouldn’t talk a lot about himself so that’s what we have until a friend of her writes a longer and better biography of her, In the meantime, let’s her art talk for her:
I really hate to have to say a word for defining someone art, about Bethalynne gothic illustration someone has used the word “steampunk” for resuming it all but I don’t feel that makes justice so I prefer to describe it a little longer:
Bethaline gothic illustration has been influenced in steampunk aesthetic, that’s undeniable, but you can also find some indications of lovercraft influences creating some quite complex illustrations that mixes the erotic of gothic world with lovercraft terror and steampunk technology with in the end creates some compositions that are hardly found in any other artists.
Maybe we can find another drawing tendency in her illustrations more related with the Victorian gothic both in their scenes than in her aesthetics, creating what for me is another parallel drawing line: It shares the same style and the artist is clearly reconocible as the same but it’s completely different in the conception of their aesthetics and the transmitted emotions as well as the world you get teleported to.
… And that’s all my limited (by my artistic knowledge) analysis about her art…
One of their projects that I most like is her Victorian/steampunk gothic tarot, she has drawed all the cards in a completely original way, a piece of art even if you don’t have the knowledge/abilities to read the fortunes.
You can find the significance of each card in the following website:

I don’t have much more to say to this article unless that you can find a lot more illustrations in her Website:

And that I personally like when someone is able to earn their money with their own work, working on what they really love, that’s the case of Bethalynne so you can (if you want) buy some of their art pieces and even IPOD cases with her illustrations at the following online shop (that is being managed by his fiancée so everything stays in family):
I leave you with some more images. Enjoy:
