We are obviously late for Wave Gothic Festival 2009 (Leipzig)… but hey, it´s not my fault, this year festival has been before the creation of this Web site… anyway, we will be on time for 2010 festival, and who knows, maybe we meet there, today we going to talk about…

Wave Gothic Festival (Leipzig) 2009.

The first edition of this festival was during 1992, there were only about 10 bands playing their music on that edition, all of them playing on the same scenario during the 2 days of a weekend in which that first edition took place.

In 2000 it was on the verge of bankruptcy but it managed to survive… but today… today this festival is one of the biggest gothic festivals in the world (if not the biggest) it last 4 days (with their nights) in which dozens of artists plays their music.

We still don’t know about 2010 program but here is 2009s as a little tease.

I’m not sure if I counted right but I counted 193 different artists…

As we could expect, in its beginnings Leipzig inhabitants look at festival attendants, who came mainly from different places in Germany suspiciously, nowadays they got used to have plenty of visitors dressed in gothic clothes, after a few editions it became clear that they didn’t have anything to fear from gothic people and nowadays they give a warm welcome to the more than 20.000 people that came to 2009 event from everyplace around the world: China, USA, Japan, Spain…

You can be sure to listen all your favourites bands in this festival but its also open to a huge variety of cultures and tendencies, for example this year it has opened itself to classic music, in deed an England band called “In the nursery” has the honour to open this edition playing their own music style based on a mix of electronic music and classic music that received its inspiration from Wagner, Mahler and Grieg.

But maybe you need a few second for relaxing of all that music, then you can participate in the various other activities that take place during the festival itself, for example there are film projection, reading club and even role-playing games (vampire theme).

This year edition started on 30th may 2009 and it seems that 2010 will take place from 21st of May 2010 until 24th of May 2010 in Leipzig/Germany, we will stay tuned on news and as soon as we read any new we will post it here or in any other article as this one.
