It has been some time since I last talked about gothic makeup and it’s time to solve that situation… today I bring to you something simple that can be used by men and women, maybe in the future we go for something more complicated.
Easy Gothic Makeup for Men and Women
For doing this makeup you are only going to need a black eye shadow, another “almost black” tone, a third one more “natural” (although I would rather use a red tone for getting something more dramatic), a black wet cover color (if you don’t have that ill let you know about another optional product for this) and a lipstick or lip gloss of your choice. As always don’t think that this is the “definitive guide of universal gothic makeup” think of this more like a idea for gathering those techniques that you want to adopt onto your own designs. I’ll leave you with a video and then you can find a detailed instructions in text in case you need some clarification or you want to print it.
Let’s get to work… cemetery is waiting for us… You should start this design with a clean face and maybe an adequate base for your skin tone… well in deed you should start any makeup with that… it will last longer. With that in mind, first steep is to pick the “almost black” tone (an almost black grey color or a dark brown will do the trick) and we will cover with that all the crease except the most external part. Then we can proceed with the black eye shadow, we will cover the external part of the eyelid. At this point, we should have something like this (Don’t tell me this isn’t a really pretty eye…)
Now it’s the moment to get the natural tone eye shadow (or the red one if we want to give the makeup a really dramatic touch) and use it for blending the dark tones over the natural skin, for that we just have to pick a little bit of natural eye shadow tone and mix it slightly with the black tone that we applied in the previous steep blending it slightly to the outside. For the next steep we are going to use a wet cover color (and a brush fo those that are used to paint miniatures), just put the pencil in water, remove the excess water in the edge of the water recipient and then pick a bit of black color from the wet cover color. In the video the girl use this for painting the line of the upper eyelid just over the eyelashes, prolonging the line to the outside a little bit. Then she does the same with the water line of the lower eyelid, this time she used an angled brush (you can buy this in a normal makeup shop). At this time this should look something like this:
Next steep is to blend the lower line that we draw in the last steep with the same natural tone that we used to blend the black tone in the upper eyelid. We return to the wet pencil for doing some creative drawing with the wet cover color in the outside of the eye, this steep is not needed although I think this lines are really cool… that’s only an opinion… This steeps is more complicated for men although I think that we can think in something… ¿an ace of spades maybe? We are already finishing, we only have to apply mascara, some false eye leashes and finally some lip gloss or lipstick (I would chose one black but each one ca chose for their own). Final result should look something like this:
A last note: In case you don’t have a black wet cover color you can use a liquid eyeliner as a substitute, they will look pretty similar and they will last more or less the same. The wet cover color is cool because you can mix different tones for getting new tones, the liquid eye lines has the advantage that the applicator is rigid so it makes easier to create designs with a lot of details. And that’s it all… something simple for getting started in the gothic makeup.
