Today I come with an article pretty similar to the last one that I wrote in summer, I didn’t added a link to it in Facebook so maybe some of you didn’t read it yet, anyway… today we talk about…

Gothic Hairstyle

Gothic Hairstyle

If there is something hard to define is “how is the gothic hairstyle”, I really don’t think that there is a gothic hairstyle “per se” and I hope never is, the reason is simple, the gothic movement is a creative movement inconstant evolution, if we end in a standard hairstyle for everyone… we are going to be in troubles.

What I’m sure there is, is some common characteristics that could be handy to take a look at so we can get some ideas that might help us on getting our own sinister appearance.

What identifies a gothic haircut?

I don’t believe that you can find something in any haircut that would define that specific haircut as gothic, the truth is that the hairstyle doesn’t create the gothic appearance by it’s own, that’s why there are so many different haircuts inside the gothic culture, and that’s also why it’s so important to get one that fits perfectly what we want to… express with our look.

There is nothing wrong in using different hairstyles each day depending on our what we want to express today.

I personally wouldn’t start to build my aspect by the haircut, I would leave it for the end so I can get one that matches my overall look, that way you will get a unice and personal Hairstyle… I say personal because you will probably have to do it on your own, there isn’t many hairdresser specialized in gothic hairstyles… ¿someone knows about any? Maybe in big cities, if so, let me know because I would be more than pleased to write them an article.

Returning to what we were talking… there is no problem in wearing long or shot hair, all sizes will do well in Goth theme, what tends to be true is that most of this haircuts tends to be straight, and when I say “straight” I mean “STRAIGHT”.

Those that aren’t, tend to fall either in some sort of fixed design using wax or carded hair (if that word exists in English), I’m trying to remember but I’m unable to recall many curly hairstyles (which doesn’t mean you can’t go for one) although those are more common in men than women.

Those of you that have straight hair and never tried it, I would recommend to go for a carded Hairstyle at least once, the result last for more or less a night loosing volume over time but the result is really spectacular, It fits perfectly with a “dirty” and “worn” look.

Wearing the hair in numerous braids is another option for Goth hairstyles, A little more complex to fit with you overall look but definitively possible, if I’m not wrong Anabantha singer used to wear her hair like that for some time.

The color in Gothic haircuts:

Its an absolute truth that gothic hairstyle don’t limits itself to any given color, people say that we always dress in black and always dye our hair in black… well, I doubt that there is any other style that uses more colors than Goth in their hairs…

Most common color is definitively black but it’s not my favorite one, I love hairstyles completely whites or bloody reds, in my opinion those are the best colors.

What tends to be common in gothic style is to look for the extreme, to be radical, if you want a black hair then you dye it in BLACK, if you want a white tone then you go for WHITE, and if you want a bloody red, well, blood is not red, blood tone is blood tone.

That doesn’t mean that we cant add another colors or special extensions, that only refers to the base that will give the hairstyle it’s global appearance.

That’s a great difference from other tendencies where they try to search for a personal look without going to far from the established rules, so when they talk about “black” in deed they are talking about some sort of dark brown and when they are talking about “white” in deed they want to say “pale blonde”.

Going back to Goth… In my opinion, the most wonderful and worked hairstyles are the cybergoth hairstyles (I wrote about them just before stopping to update the website, but if you didn’t read it yet, you can do it HERE).

In those Hairstyles is terribly easy to find antinatural and modern  tones and Ultraviolet colors that glow under UV lights, but you don’t need to go so far, in deed, in cybergoth is quite common to find more common but still strange colors like blue, pink or green, any of them will give you a unique aspect.

..

.

I think that I should add that in most instances, gothic hairstyle tend to require a lot of work… I mean it’s hard to express exactly what you want without taking care of every detail and that means work, specially if you want to break with established rules and do with your hair what you want…

We use to say that social pressures is the hardest obstacle to get trough when trying to embrace the goth aesthetic… in this case I have to say that I think that the hardest obstacle is going to be your own hair, that will try to avoid in every way you to tell it how he must be…

You’ll have to be patient… and no, the whip wont work for convincing it to behave as desired…

Some exaples (ideas):

If you still aren’t sure of what to do, don’t desperate, there are simple Goth haircuts that will do perfectly, a good starting point is the shoulder length black straight hair, it will do perfectly both for men and women and you wont have many troubles in other non-Goth ambient, the longer the hair the more Goth it will look.

Women can do almost what they want with their hair and it will stil look goth: long or short hair, even “inexistent” hair will do well, Mohawk style is another option… the only think you have to be cautious with is to not limit your creativity being afraid of what people could say.

More complexity: something in the gothic-punk line

White gothic hairstyle

Simple but different: short, straight but white gothic hairstyle

Men has way more problems, in deed it’s harder to find a good example of a gothic haircut that could fit everyone if you don’t limit yourself to the black straight long hair.

Inside the Goth community that hairstyle will do just fine, although you wont be the more original guy out there… keeping the hair like that could be slightly frustrating for people like me (who have a natural specially curly hair).

An incredible effective trick is to wear a hat, they bring your hair a unique looking and curiously it’s a complement that you will rarely see in a girl, they have problems for making it fit on their lookings…

The fact is that in the end the most impressive male haircuts are those that are personal and hardly being able to be suitable for other people, just search for what fits you and you should get to a perfect looking although it might take a few frustrated (and frustrating tries).

    HI there,

I don´t feel like anyone can tell you which air colour you should have... in deed I don´t feel that there is *any* air color that you *must* wear, instead of that you should look or something tat suits you.

I still have an advice though: If you are having problems with your fathers or with your school, you should try something sober, like for example plain black.

You can move from there in the future if you still want.
