In gothic-culture.com we don’t have credit card as an available payment method, instead of that we use Paypal, do you want to know why? Keep reading.
This article is written based in my personal experience in online buyment. My preferred payment method (both as a seller and a buyer) is paypal, the reason is that I think it’s the best solution for everyone. Paypal is compared in services with banks credit cards but as you will see in the following lines, it’s vastly superior in security and performance, let’s see some examples: Data protection: Sharing personal data through internet is not a good politic, specially if those data includes credit card number and the like, you never know who could be watching those numbers so we can only share them with trustworthy companies. When we buy using a credit card, we are not only trusting in the seller (we can consider almost every seller o be trustworthy or his bushiness won’t last long) but we are trusting in his security system too, more exactly in that no hacker could have hacked their systems without the seller even noticing about it. Paypal have a way much more secure system than most established online shops, it’s a company that operates worldwide and their bushiness depends in this kind of secure system, we can be pretty sure that they are doing everything they can for keeping your account secure and that they are going to do a good use of your personal data. Payment security: When online commerce started there were 2 great fraud, one aimed at buyers and the other aimed at sellers. The first one happened when the seller stated that the money never arrived at his bank account, demanding a new buyment or not shipping the materials, in general this payments were low enough for not making it worth to get into lawyers problems and the like and the buyer did effectively lose the money for nothing. Paypal solves that problem because their payment method is different, when you order a payment with paypal, you creates a deposit into paypal account and then paypal pays the seller. Why this is a more secure way? Because if the seller can’t state that the money never arrived at his account… well he can buy paypal do have a large amount of lawyers that want to do their job so paypal is not as helpless as a regular buyer is. In the event that the money never reached the seller (for some strange reason) then it’s not buyer fault and it’s a problem that must be solved between paypal and the seller. The second happens when the buyers order something using a credit card and when the package is on trip he cancels the paypment in the days that he is allowed to do so, that way he receives the items without having to pay for them. Paypal solves this problem too, because for paying with paypal you need a login and password, and paypal ensures the seller that he is going to receive the money for any payment that was made if the account was correctly authenticated. Limit the risk: But… what happens if everything goes wrong?. If someone steals your credit card numbers they are going to use it until you notice and you are able to cancel it… that’s a big problem… But paypal have several tool s for protect us in case our account is hacked or the login and password are stolen. The best way to be protected is to associate the paypal account to a debit (not credit) bank account and leave that account with few money able to pay only our desired buyments. For example: I use a “visa electron” that keeps a really small amount of money in it and needs to be manually recharged for having more, when I’m going to buy something through internet and don’t have enough money in the card for committing the payment, I go to the bank charge the card and then commit the payment… basically as one of the old pre-payment mobile phone cards. If you need to know how to create a paypal account, please visit: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Help/general/TopQuestion2-outside for me that web site it’s in Spanish but I bet that it’s going to be in your mother language if you visit it.
